This listing is for an antique Moroccan embroidered curtain from Rabat from the end of the 19th or early 20th century. It was acquired at auction in 2017 for $1,150 ($900 + 28%, see last photo for original sale record) and is listed with a starting bid well below cost. The Izar features rich poly-chrome silk embroidery on tulle. Measures approximately 9 feet long by 5 feet wide. There are many condition issues so please review the photos carefully. The piece was altered at some point by adding burgundy ribbon in the middle and the entire embroidery was transferred to new tulle likely in the first half of the 20th century (the original thin muslin ground is visible in the embroidered areas). The tulle has numerous stains and holes as shown. The fringe at the bottom is heavily damaged. The embroidered sections remain in generally good condition, though there are some missing threads and wear. This is the condition the hanging was acquired in back in 2017 (original auction photos included above). The colors are still vibrant and this would be a great decorator piece. This Izar could certainly be restored by a skilled hand to bring it back to its former glory. One of the last photos above shows a similar example published in a book on Moroccan embroidery that is dated to the end of the 19th century - the book is not included in the auction. A scarce item that rarely comes on the market and a desirable piece for your collection in any condition. Please take note of the end time of this auction as it will be during the night for bidders in Europe and Africa. If you don't want to miss this opportunity, please place your bid in advance so that you do not miss it. I will not accept any offers after the auction ends on ebay.
